Seminar on Mohiniyattom

Mohiniyattom is considered one of the most beautiful classical dance forms of India. The highlights of this art form that originated in Kerala are the graceful swaying movements, dance patterns and elaborate and intricate facial expressions. As a tri
bute to this fine art, Natanakairali, Irinjalakuda, will conduct a five-day Ranga Parichaya Festival and a seminar on Mohiniyattom.
Artistes and scholars
Starting on November 4, the seminar will feature renowned speakers and artistes speaking and demonstrating features about the art form.
November 4 will see K.G. Paulose, Vice-Chancellor, Kerala Kalamandalam Deemed University, speaking on ‘The Nritha aspects in Natyasastra,’ which will be followed by a lecture-demonstration and performance (‘Thiruvathirakali’) by Nirmala Paniker and her students.
G. Venu and Kapila will demonstrate Navarasa in Nangiarkoothu on November 5. A lecture-demonstration on Navarasa (based on the Ashatapathy/ Gita Govind) will be conducted by Kalamandalam Kshemavathy on the same day.
Kalamandalam Krishna Priya will demonstrate vachikabhinayam in Mohiniyattom while Vineetha Nedungadi will perform her new choreography, ‘Navarasa of the rain’ on November 6.
On November 7, Gramaprakash, registrar of Kerala Kalamandalam, will speak on ‘Danseuses of Manipravala poems.’ The lecture will be followed by a Mohiniyattom performance by Natanakaisiki Mohiniyatta Gurukulam.
The final day has a talk on ‘Danseuses in Sanskrit Literature’ by C.M. Neelakandan from S.S.U.S, Kalady. Kapila and students of Natanakaisiki will wind up the fete with a Nangiarkoothu festival.
