Allordyce Nicoll in his work “World Drama: From Aeschyles to Anouish” devotes 23 pages to Henrik Ibsen. Assured theatrical strength, penetrating vision and determined purpose, these attributes in combination made Ibsen plays important. Of
his 27 dramas, “A Doll’s House” (1879), “Ghosts” (1881) and “An Enemy of the People” received much critical acclaim.
H.A. Ramakrishna, an English teacher at the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore, has a passion for Ibsen’s works. He has in the past translated “A Doll’s House” as “Nora” and “Ghosts” as “Bembidada Bethaalagalu”.
When democracy has been reduced to a mere play of numbers, “An enemy of the people” is contemporary. Sathyajit Ray who had read the play during his student days, re-read it later, and made the film, “Ganashatru” (1989).
The translation here sounds somewhat formal. At places, the choice of word is feeble, even faulty. (eg. Asambaddhate page 19). Numerous printing errors test the reader’s patience. There is a mix-up in the name of the newspaper - Prajamitra (as in introduction and pages 51, 72) or Prajarakshaka (pages 45, 67 and 68). For those who cannot read the original or its English translation, “Prajaashatru” provides a good glimpse. The best part of the play is the confrontation between the Mayor and the doctor (Acts 2 and 3). Ibsen has incorporated many elements in the play and some of them are dilemmas faced by the family members of the whistle-blowers, threats to the freedom of the press, Health Tourism, nexus between politicians and administrators, the manufacture of public opinion and majority are relevant even today.

Pranaayama Haagu Sarala Yogaasanagalu is an elegant and handy book, and contains useful information pertaining to health aspects apart from yogasanas, pranayama, yoga mudras, etc. This book, which is written in Kannada will also be published in other
languages apart from English by the same author at a later date. This booklet on Pranayama and Yoga is self-explanatory since it explains all yogasanas in such a simple and lucid manner so that even a layman can easily understand and digest. Though it is always good to learn yogasanas under the guidance of an expert yoga teacher, this book will provide not only clear and simple instructions on how to go about it, but also contains useful information on health aspects, in addition to yoga mudras, which can be practiced by all people of all age groups to attain and retain their health and happiness. In spite of including so much of information on health and other topics, the cost of the booklet is kept low so that it is affordable to all sections of people. The attractive and informative book contains 80 pages with beautiful illustrations and good quality print, and costs only Rs. 50. The book introduces you to various types of pranayamas with exhaustive illustrations, by explaining the usefulness of each pranayama at the end. The precautions are also explained in detail.
There is a chapter on Bandhanas and their usefulness is explained in detail. There is also a chapter on simple exercises for fingers, hands, head, heart, neck, shoulders, eyes, etc., with detailed explanations and benefits. An interesting and useful topic on Suryanasamaskara with lucid illustrations is also covered in the book. A separate chapter on Simple Yogasanas will help you start doing yogasanas yourself. If you are not aware of how to relax each and every part of the body, there is a chapter on Relaxation. There is an interesting chapter on Simpla Yoga Mudras, which is very easy to practice anywhere and at anytime, without bending any part of the body. In fact, all these mudras can be practised with fingers alone, but the effectiveness of these mudras will bespread all over the body. Some of the mudras illustrated in the book include Jnana Mudra, Varuna Mudra, Vyasa Mudra, Aakasha Mudra, Varuna Mudra, Vayu Mudra, Surya Mudra, etc.
It is also fascinating to note that there is a chapter on some important slokas that can be memorised for various occasions and to be said at various times of the day. At the end of the book there are tips on food habits, what to eat, what not to eat, how much to eat etc.. Diet to be followed for heart-related problems, diabetic problems, etc., are also included.
Last but one chapter on Acupressure with attractive illustrations is also explained for the benefit of the people. Finally, a note on Om Yoga Prathistana and its aims and objectives along with its future plans are narrated in brief.
