Folk arts Children present a performance.
Cultural programmes presented with devout fervour marked the three-day Durga puja celebration organised by the members of the Utkal Sanskrutika Samaj in the port city. The cultural events got off to a grand start with a prabachan (discourse) on the attributes of Jagannadh Sanskruti by renowned scholar from Orissa, Sriman Srikanth Nanda.
The Palla Nache (devout discourse on song, dance and the dramatic form) presented by Gayaksudhakar Bichitrananda Behara and his team from Salepur, Orissa, the next evening marked the Mahasthami celebration. The following evening witnessed a few dance performances that paid obeisance to Lord Jagannadh and Devi Durga. Baisi pahancha dhuli presented by Reeka, Daisy, Ekki, Deepan, Rajeswari, Mona and Shalini stood out among them.
Similarly, the Sambalpuri folk More mana chui debare by Sany, Priyanka, Bobby, Priyamba, Geetha, Kajol and Babitha thrilled all alike. Dances in modern format Halodi basanthe choleyi by Jyotirmoyi, Subrath, Leepu, Bablu and Suneel; Haire morey nua oddhami by Lepakshi, Trupthi, Chinmoyi, Neeroja, Subhasri and Madhusmitha; a duet Tho bouku dekuchi mousi mousi by Lepakshi and Trupthi were enchanting.
The choreography and costumes, were designed by women from the Naval Dock Yard wing of the USS with guidance from Arathi Halder. Mono action by Renubala Moharana and a skit Swayambar replete with hilarious comedy presented by S.K. Panigrahi, S.C. Moharana, Seema and Preetham Mohanthis, P.K. Biswal, K.L. Behuria, Srinivas, K.P. Sahoo, G.P. Mohapatro and the secretary of the Samaj Basanthia kept up the tempo.
