Laxman’s obeisance to Baba

‘Sai Sudha’ is a musical offering to Shirdi Sai Baba by V.V.S. Laxman.

Spiritual turn V.V.S. Laxman with Shankar Mahadevan at the studio.

If you wonder where V.V.S. Laxman gets those sterling qualities of patience and perseverance, you could find answers in his latest offering, not from his elegant willow blade this time, but in Sai Sudha, a collection of songs dedic ated to Shirdi Sai Baba.

Launched at Shirdi on Vijaya Dasami, the day Sai Baba attained the sublime, the CD/cassette contains 11 songs and a sloka, sung by a galaxy of greats, such as S.P. Balasubrahmanyam, K.S. Chitra, Shankar Mahadevan, Bombay Jayashree, Karthik, Unni Krishnan and Sunita.

Starting with an invocation, it appeals to listeners of all ages in that it combines tradition with the trendy, even when based on Carnatic ragas.

The album attempts to encapsulate the teachings, practices and miracles of Shirdi Sai Baba in the form of songs and bhajans for devotees, under time and life-style pressures, says Laxman.

It supplements/ complements contents from the ‘Sai Satcharitra’, which the saint’s followers read on Thursdays and Laxman, each day, even when on tour.

The compilation, right from the conceptual stage, is the brainchild of R. Baba Krishna Mohan, also its producer and Laxman’s maternal uncle.

Marketed by Saregama, the CDs are available for Rs. 100 and cassettes for Rs. 42.
