Speaking in metaphors

“Resonating Metaphors” brings together a range of contemporary artists.

A Sneak peak From Manisha Gawade’s work.

“Resonating Metaphors”, a vibrant show of contemporary Indian art that reflects the modern urban reality in its myriad dimensions, will open this Saturday. The show will be presented under the aegis of Enkita Arts, an arts portal to be launched by the Enkita Group on the occasion. The show will be rich in international flavour. A section of the show was exhibited at the Gulf Art Fair in Dubai, to rave response by the international audiences. Curated by Dr Alka Raghuvanshi, the exhibition will feature nearly 42 paintings and sculptures of 27 artists.

“The exhibition features an interesting amalgam of some of the most creative contemporary artists of the buoyant Indian art scene. They have made their presence felt at the international level and are recognised as the harbingers of growth and change,” says Alka. The form and content chosen by the artists is novel as they discover newer paths to present the expressions of their aspirations and realities.

The list of artists includes the respected and buoyant names on the contemporary Indian scene today. Rubbing shoulders with Niren Sen Gupta, Siddarth, Shobha Broota and S. Harshavardhana are Dharmendra Rathore, Seema Kohli, Manisha Gawade and Sridhar Iyer. The artists whose works have got them rave reviews on the international scene are Zargar Zahoor, Deepak Ambuj, Dinesh Kumar Ram, and Devi Dass Khatri.

The exhibition also features 10 women artists whose work stands out for both form and content. “The concerns of women artists are shared, they are looking at urban and rural reality as it explodes and implodes around them like land mines programmed to go off with a whisper. But within this cacophony of silence, they make their statement in definitive ways,” says the curator. The show will be inaugurated by H.E. Jerome Bonnafonteand will be attended by the participating and other eminent artists like Satish Gujral, Jatin Das, Krishen Khanna, Shamshad Hussain and performing artists like Shubha Mudgal, Raja, Radha Reddy, Prathiba Prahlad, Madhup Mudgal and Shujaat Khan among others.
