Renovation
Bhoomi Neela Sametha Sri Venkateswara Thirukoil of Punalveli is a very ancient temple, situated in the village of Punalveli in Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu.
This village, headed by Sri Muthusubbier, is also home for some of the well known scholars, such as, Mahamahopadhyaya Pandit M Lakshmana Suri (son of Muthusubbier) and grandsons, T.L.Venkatrama Iyer and Gayaka Sikhamani, Harikesanallur Muthiah Bhagavathar.
The worst famine in the 1850s and the dacoit menace of that time forced all these families to migrate to places such as Tirunelveli, Perungulam, Harikesanallur and Thiruvananthapuram.
The temple fell into dilapidated state thereafter.
In the year of 1974-75, when Sri Narayana Moopanar of Puttur, a neighbouring village, took up construction work for the Nachiar Amman temple, the village deity, he was ordained in his dream to first construct the Punalveli Lord Venkateswara temple.
Accordingly he completed the task and handed over the management of the temple activities to the descendants of Muthusubbier.
Contribution for repair
Years have gone by since its last restoration work and the temple has withstood for over three decades. Now, this ancient temple is in dire need of funds to carry out major repairs, replacements and renovation.
Also, it has been planned to perform the Ashtabandhana Maha Samprokshanam during the Tamil month of Thai after the renovation.
Queries regarding contributions may be sent to Punalveli Lord Venkateswara Temple Trust, c/o Major S.Lakshmanan, P-4(TF), Sri Jayendra Colony, 4/360 Old Mahabalipuram Road, Kottivakkam, Chennai 600 096. Ph: 044 – 24542775.
