A recent jugalbandi between danseuse Saswati Sen and vocalist Sunanda Sharma impressed all.

impressive Saswati Sen at a performance.

Recently a musical evening ‘Shringar’ was organised by Facets at India Habitat Centre where a jugalbandi of classical music and Kathak between Sunanda Sharma and Saswati Sen created magical waves and left Delhiites spellbound.

The evening started with a stupendous solo performance by Saswati Sen, seeing her performance everyone was amazed with her skill.

Pandit Birju Maharaj’s well known disciple impressed with her discipline and rhythm.

After Saswati Sen, it was left to Sunanda Sharma to continue the magic. She started her performance with raga Purvi, ‘Aayo bhanwro ras le gayo maai…’ in Bara Khayal. She made her presence felt with her tuneful brilliance.

But this was not enough for Delhiites as they anxiously waited for the jugalbandi by two of the most prominent classical artists. Soon the moment arrived and it all belonged to the Sur-Laya-Taal of Sunanda Sharma and the magical adaa and abhinaya of Saswati Sen.

It was enjoyed by each and every single person present.

The jugalbandi started with a thumri in raga Misra Khamaj, “Cchhavi dikhla ja saawaria dhyan lago mohe tera…” followed by a Kajri, “Kahanwa mano o radha rani…” The finale was “Rang darungi nand ke lalan pe…”

On this occasion Pandit Birju Maharaj, Rajan Mishra, Ritesh Mishra, renowned painter Sanjay Bhattacharya and singer Meeta Pandit were spotted among the audience.

Alka Singh was pleased with the feedback of the audience. She said, “‘Facets’ is an organisation engaged in the promotion of arts, crafts and music. In particular, the organisation seeks to locate talented artists, craftsmen and performers in different fields and to provide them with a creative ambience to display their skills and interact with discerning audiences members.”
