Hindustani music
The annual music festival of Hindustani Sangeet Kalakar Mandali is on November 18, at Gayana Samaja. This year’s festival is dedicated to the late E.R. Sethuram.
The programme has a morning and an evening session. The morning session begins at 10 a.m. with a vocal recital by Pt. Vijay Sardeshmukh of Pune. He is a student of the extraordinary musician Pt. Kumar Gandharva. He is an A-grade artist of All India Radio since 1977 and Pt. Vijay is also an honoured guru for post graduation studies in music at the Lalit Kala Kendra, Pune University.
He has performed in many a music conferences and concerts all over India. Some of the published recordings of his include a CD by HMV and CDs and cassettes by Alurkar Music House, Pune.
He will be accompanied by Vyasamurthi Katti on the harmonium and Udayraj Karpur on the tabla.
The evening session will have a vocal recital by Pt. Indudhar Nirody. Pt. Nirody is a stickler to the tradition. However, he improvises his music with great imagination giving importance to the aesthetic contents of the bandishes.
His renderings are marked by transparent sincerity; embodied with appropriate bolalaps, behalaavas, rhythmic upazas and clear-cut taans. He will be accompanied by Vyasamurti Katti on harmonium and Gurumurthi Vaidya on the tabla.
The last concert of the day is Milana, a unique instrumental concert by Ravindra Katoti on harmonium, M.B. Prakash and P. Ravindra on the accordion, Udayaraj Karpur on tabla.
