ANUJ KUMAR

Exotic effect

Music channels are busy importing foreigners as veejays. After MTV brought in Mia, Channel V has launched Brazilian model Bruna Abdullah. With an Arabian mother and Brazilian father, Bruna is making all the right noises. “I always wanted to explore India for its mysticism.” Having modelled in Lakme Fashion Week, Bruna was also part of Kingfisher Swimsuit Calendar 2007. She is frank enough to admit she doesn’t know much about Indian music. “I like the beats but don’t understand the words. My show is about finding the hottest Indian male and female.” Quite obvious!

It’s changing

After giving us shock effects for years, Balaji Telefilms is changing. The production house is coming up with a new serial “Kucch Is Tara” (some things are still the same) on Sony from this Monday. If sources are to be believed in this love story Balaji has shed its overdramatic image. “It is difficult to be simple and require more time,” reasons Sanjay Upadhayay, Vice President – Development, SET India Private limited. In fact there is a character in the series, who works in Balaji and creates all those loud situations. After Shah Rukh in “Om Shanti Om”, it’s Ekta’s turn to laugh at herself.

Out of order

Mika has been finally voted out of “Jhalak Dikhlaa Jaa”. He was the one who said on day one – I have nothing to do with dance but I am going to the finals! Brash and loud Mika fought week over week with the judges, made his presence felt over scores, his dance and his love – Urmila. His presence had once again put a question mark on the voting process where regionalism was overshadowing talent. “No surprise”, says Mika. “When I asked my fans to vote for me, they did. Last week when Prachi was voted out I felt very bad that she was eliminated because of me and I asked my fans not to vote for me. My fans are very obedient. They did precisely that.”

Nightingale at the finale

After criticising realty shows Lata Mangeshkar, has agreed to be present at the grand finale of “Amul Star Voice of India” Says Gajenderra Siingh, the producer of the show, “It has my life long ambition to have Lataji endorse the show. I’ve pursued her for nearly 12 years. It’s finally a dream come true! Despite her views on biased SMS voting by the public she has agreed to be a part of the event only because she strongly believes that the show upholds the traditions of true music.” According to Siingh, Lataji has confirmed that her family will be present on the evening of grand finale. Lataji has advised the boys to sing original compositions rather than pre-recorded Hindi film songs since that will give a true indication of their talent. Is the producer listening?
