‘Star Wars’ on Kairali TV is a game show that has campuses competing against each other for the top place.

Campus glitz: Swetha Menon is the host of ‘Star Wars.’ Hundred colleges are participating in the show.

It is the intense but friendly competition among campuses in Kerala that makes Star Wars glitter. A new reality show on Kairali Channel, it is already making waves amongst youngsters.

“It is a fiesta with hundred colleges competing against one another; a revamped version of an inter-collegiate fete. Usually its colleges within a university that competes in an inter-collegiate competition, Star Wars has colleges from across the State battling it out,” says Shibu Chakravarthy, associate director, programmes, Kairali Channel.

A hunt for the college with the most talented students, it will have the students competing in events such as dance, music and acting.

“The students are selected through thorough screening. We go to each college and pick the best from the lot of talented students.

“For instance in the dance segment, we pick the crème of the dancers for the solo dance competition. Those who were on a par but did not make it to the solo event will participate in the group dance. Those selected attend a training camp,” explains the producer of the show S.N. Sudhir.

A grooming camp helps hone the skills of the participants.

“We want them to be perfect, in terms of their stage performance, performance techniques et al,” says Sudhir.

And the result: a tough battle amongst the colleges.

Says Sudhir, “Each week will see four colleges battling against one another. The finals will have six colleges participating till it is down to one. While it’s the judges who decide which college gets eliminated, the voters can help save the college of their choice through their votes. Take for instance when the judges selected Christ College, Irijanlakuda as the winners, the viewers, however, rooted for Malabar Christian College. The result: both colleges made it to the next round.”

According to Sudhir, both Mar Ivanios and TKM Engineering College are in the race to the top. “Both Ivanios and TKM are garnering the most votes till date. But then you never know when luck changes and the voters start rooting for another college.”

The best college stands to win Rs. 25 lakhs and there are prizes galore for the best performer too. Hosted by Shwetha Menon, Sujatha, Sriram and Methil Devika are some of the judges for the show.

Says Shwetha on the show: “It is a fun show. It’s vibrant and captures the youth of today in their element. The youth of today are amazing; they are focussed, know what they want and strive to get it.”

So, let the best college win!
