Excellent classical lec-dems

C. SURESH KUMAR

Brothers Rajnish and Ritesh Mishra conducted a series of lecture-demonstrations at educational institutes across the city.

Born to the famous Baneras Gharana singer Pt. Rajan Mishra of the well known Rajan-Sajan Mishra duo, brothers Rajnish and Ritesh, proved to be a chip of the old block, with their excellent rendering of classical vocal music.

The brothers were in the city under the aegis of Spic Macay, that organised lecture demonstrations and performances at various schools and institutions in the city on November 26 and 27.As the performance was of lec-demtype and at different hours of the day, the duo chose apt ragas. Raag Brindavan sarangi, in vilambit set to madya laya japtal, followed by drut in teen taal with a wonderful composition Langarayya hum sung na karo. Yet another composition in the same raag was Jaun maine tope bali hari, was well rendered and appreciated by the gathering at Aurora College.

In the evening at the ICFAI School they sang the evening melody raag Yaman, vilambit Palakan se mag Jhaungi set to ek taal. In madya lay they sang a composition Yeri aali Piya Bina set to teen Taal.

At the TEFLU institute they sang the popular afternoon raag Multani, vilambit set to madya laya teen taal, with a composition Bagiyamein. They followed it with Drut in Ek Taal with a wonderful bandish Aangan mein Nandlal. Unfortunately the turnout at TEFLU institute was dismal and the artists were quite disappointed to sing in front of hardly 15 people. Both the singers have good harmony and control over their singing that the division is done with ease and effectively.

The singers were accompanied on the harmonium by Pt. Kanta Prasad Mishra, of the Banares Gharana who showed his dexterity on the instrument and added flavour to the performance.
