New faces and the flavour of Kasi are expected to give ‘Alayam’ a different texture.

Shot in various places: Alayam
On the one side Rahasya was practising the dance steps with the help of dance master Dinesh. The cameraman Srinivasa Reddy was checking the lights.
The set, a dilapidated structure, was crowded, what with the dancers in full swing and the unit on its toes, anxious to complete the song in two days and the floor was full of people as there were more of dancers who were in the shot and also the unit moved in full swing as they needed to finish the song in two days time.
Director Vadivuddaiyan, also in charge of the story, screenplay and dialogue, was discussing the next shot with the dance master. Coming over presently, he said that Creative Talkies’s ‘Alayam’ would be a good film with high entertainment value.
“I have the gut feeling that it is going to do well. And the film has a strong flavour of Kasi. I went all the way to Kasi and stayed there for nearly seven months and only then decided to shoot the film. The shooting was held at 10 different other locations — Mumbai, Visakhapatnam, Puducherry, Kerala, Rajasthan, Ladakh, Chennai, Paramakudi and Tiruchi.”
Vadivudaiyan has worked as an associate of Shaji Kailash. He has written nearly 10 books. ‘Alayam’ talks about a lonely young man, whose life is changed by love.
More of outdoor
The crew went to the China border area and Kulu Manali to shoot for seven days. The film has a climax for 20 minutes. They are also going to shoot in a desert area with 40 camels and the same number of horses.
The hero is Sembi (he appeared in ‘Alai Payudhe’) and the heroine is Dhanushya. Senu is the villain.
“I felt that new faces would suit my characters better and would give the film a different feel. I have also introduced a number of new technicians. This includes music composer Indrajith. It is a first time for producer Poornapriya too,” said the director.”
