A big success
The two-day annual art exhibition, the 36th in a series organised by the Lalit Kala Parishad received overwhelming response. For the Parishad, known for organising shows, workshops and conferences, it turned out to be success not only in terms of
continuous flow of visitors but also in receiving hundreds of entries from all parts of the country. Also, it received financial aid from different universities in the State and sponsorship for awards from various commercial establisments. .
The 103 exhibits were selected after scrutiny by C. Sanjeeva Rao and secretary, G. Kanna Rao under the supervision of specialists in the field of art. Artists had shown their skill with pencil, crayons, pen, ink, water, oil and poster colours, acrylics, woodcuts, graphics, etch works including a few combinations of these.
M. Subrahmanyeswara Rao’s ‘Catch to Market’ bagged the best contemporary art award, while G.K. Nambiar’s ‘Theatre of Life’ won the modern folk art. Other winners were Bharathi of Chennai (best painting for ‘Just married’); R.P. Pandarinath of Pune (best graphic for ‘Asmitha); Best A.M. Shivbal also from Pune (best woodcut art for ‘Art of Buddha’); P. Narendranath of Hyderabad (untitled landscape); G. Prabhakara Rao also of Hyderabad (untitled picture), K.S. Latha of Vishakapatnam (contemporary art for ‘Mother’) and M.M.G. Mani (best miniature art for ‘Village’).
The winners were given a cash award of Rs.1000, mementos and certificates.
