Teenager Manikya Lakshmi impresses with her recital.

Mellifluous voice T. Manikya Lakshmi performing.
As part of the Margasira maasa mahotsavam organised by the Management Committee of the Devasthanam of the presiding deity of the port city, Sri Kanakamahalakshmi Ammavaru, a vocal recital, by teenager T. Manikya Lakshmi was featured in the utsav mand
ap last Friday.
Ably accompanied by almost the same age group of artistes - P. Gnanadev on violin and P.V. Mehersagar on mridangam - Lakshmi, a disciple of noted vocalist Jalajakshi, got off to an engaging start rendering Sriragavarnam in the two tempos. Then, after fluently rendering Mahaganapatim (Naata), Gourisukumaari of N.Ch. Krishnamacharyulu (Vasantha), Sarasijanaabha (Naagagandhari) and Bantureethi Koluvu (Hamsanaadam), she rendered a short but neatly structured aalapana for Raagaratnamalikache (Reethigoula) concluded with swaram.
Then, after rendering Sogasuchoodatarama evocatively (Kannadagoula), she expansively elaborated Sundari Needivya (Kalyani). The aalapana, neravu and swaram rendered with spontaneity in expression in the two tempos were replete with phraseology that relevantly represented the characteristic attributes of the raga and sahitya bhavas.
Thus, not only revealing the artiste in the making in her but also holding a bright promise for the future, she concluded her recital after rendering Raminchuvaarevarura (Suposhini), devotional songs like Narayanathe Namonamo, Adigoalladigo and Balamurali’s Thilana in Brindavani on a brisk note.
Both Gnanadev and Meher Sagar proved to be well accomplished artistes and contributed grandeur to the performance.
