Raaga Sudhalaya Charitable Trust will hold a special programme on December 23 on the occasion of their completing their 100th programme. The Trust annually presents the Raaga Sudhalaya Puraskara to the best musician/ instrumentalist/a person in other fields of fine arts. This year the award will be presented to K.S. Manorama (Director of Rajashri School of Music Bangalore). Annually, the Trust celebrates the Thyagaraja and Purandaradasa Aradhanas in January. The managing trustee, V. Nagabhushanam, a senior citizen of Muthyalnagar, is the backbone of Raaga Sudhalaya, working towards popularising classical music. Monthly music concerts are held on the last Saturday of every month at the B.E.L. Shri Ganapathi Temple. The forum has opened doors for classical musicians including vocalists, instrumentalists and children aged between eight and 12 years.
The Trust also has a “Vaatsalya Scheme” to provide medical support to deserving, aged and ailing musicians who are economically backward. Deserving musicians are given a cash award of Rs. 5,000. This year the recipients of the Vaatsalya Scheme are Ananthacharya Balacharya Katageri of Dharwad and Venkateshachar Bhagavatulu of Bangalore.
