Remembering Annamayya Deity of Annamayya
As part ofDhanurmaasotsavam in Sri Trimurtika Venkateswaraswamy Temple in H.B. Colony, Seethammadhara, a recital of devotional music by vocalist Dwaram V.K.G. Thyagaraju was featured on Saturday last in the temple premises.
Accompanied on violin by G. Annaji Rao and on mridangam by Mangalagiri Sridhar, Thyagaraju rendered the recital in the pattern of a concert of Carnatic music.
He got off to a brisk start rendering a varnam in Valaji in the two tempos and then Vandeham Jagathvallabham (Hamsadhvani) with aalapana and swaram. Similar was his effort rendering Vachenu Alamelumanga in Hindolam and Ade choodare in Mohana, both of Annamayya set to exquisite music by his guru Nedunuri Krishnamurty. His expression of manodharma in aalapana and swaram left an impression of being a paragon of evolving a spell on the audience. He also chose to sing compositions of Annamayya: Podagantimayya, Kandarpajanaka, Ennadu Vignanamu ikanaaku, Tandanana and the like in between the three major efforts.
Both Annaji Rao and Sridhar not only materialised a harmonious blend with his voice but also exhibited excellent talent in their turns, aalapana and swaram on violin and a brief but aesthetically knit thani on mridangam.
