Denizens enjoyed a week of cultural events.

It is the season of various cultural events in Vijayawada . Musical and dance programmes and dramas are being held at different venues while attracting crowds.

A delightful dance programme was arranged by Vijayawada Music Academy. Trained by Ajay Kumar, talented dancers Chaitanya, Geeta Poornima, Deepti, Padusha, Surendranath and Surekha presented several solo and group dances in Kuchipudi tradition with good synchronisation and precise rhythmic sense. A C.D and a cassette of well known singer late Mallik was released on the occasion by Gokaraju Gangaraju and Palagani Prabhakar Rao. The chief guest of the function was Putta Jaganmohan Rao. At a function that took place at the Railway Institute Hall, Ushodaya Academy fittingly honoured popular stage and movie actress of yesteryear, Kanakam. Veteran film actress Sarada, who was the chief guest praised Kanakam’s acting and singing prowess. After a gap of two days, the Vijayawada Music Academy presented a brief Kuchipudi dance by Kumari Kasha Patel of U.S., who was trained by Natyacharya K.V.Satyanarayana of Eluru. Kasha presented the usual Kuchipudi items with a difference sans monotony. The highlight was the felicitation to Kasha’s guru K.V.Satyanarayana, a Nandi Award winner . Satyanarayana, who founded `Satya Kuchipudi and Folk Nritya Academy at Eluru in 1989 also teaches Kuchipudi to a large number of students in Kuchipudi in U.S. every year. He also choreographed several dances for films like Sruti Layalu, Swarna Kamalam, Sutradharulu and Swathi Kiranam. Speakers Sarada Ramakrishna, C.Raghavachari, K.Subramanyam, P.Ranganath, H.V.R.S.Prasad and stage actor Achanta Venkataratnam Naidu profusely praised Satyanarayana’s dedication to the art of dance and his teaching abilities.
