Accolades galore

Dr. C. Narayana Reddy completes 46 years of lyric-writing for Telugu films.

It was a momentous occasion for Dr. C. Narayana Reddy a great poet and lyric writer. He celebrated 46th year of lyric writing by holding a film music programme at Ravindra Bharati, last week. He watched, listened and enjoyed as singers of the twin ci ties rendered songs written by him. He is the lyric writer for largest number of films. He has even published them in a book formThe singers chose one song from each film. Thus there were 46 songs representing as many directors , starting from NTR’s Gule Bakavali Katha to Ramulamma. The programme was attended by a big number of film personalities. The singers chose popular songs like Nannu Dochukunduvate Vennela Dorasani, Chelikadu Ninne Piluva, Galiki Kulamedi, Pagale Vennela, Priya Priya Madhuram, Telisindile Telisindile. The singers included Gangadhar, Charanteja, D.A. Mitra, ASR Murthy, Ramachari, Chalapatiraju, Vijayalakshmi, Surekha Murthy, Sarada Reddy V.A. Lakshmi and others. The programme was organised by Kinnera Art Theatres under theatre’s Trust.

N. Janardhana Reddy, former Chief Minister of A.P., in whose regime Dr. Narayana Reddy was chosen as the Chairman of the State Cultural Council called Narayana Reddy an evergreen writer displaying equal authority in all forms of Telugu literature.Actress Jamuna, one of the ace actresses of Telugu cinema recalled those films in which her characters rendered songs written by Narayana Reddy.Narayana Reddy also recalled how his stint as a lyric writer began with NTR’s film. It was a memorable event for the reasons that it recalled the great musical era of Telugu cinema and also for creating an occasion to listen to those very songs that brought name to Narayana Reddy and Telugu cinema as well.
