Of human bonding

M.L. NARASIMHAM

First-time director Radhakrishna deals with an intriguing love story.

.

In the Road film Kamalinee Mukherjee and Sarwanand

A love story in pursuit of human spirit? Sounds crazy! But the US-educated computer engineer-turned-film-maker Radhakrishna Jagarlamudi has different ideas about the way movies should be made. To be truly different from the routine, he wrote a love s tory filled with intriguing incidents. “A rich US-returned playboy Abhiram (Sarwanand) falls in love with an Indian girl, Janaki (Kamalinee Mukherjee), a medico. To his dismay she suddenly disappears,” Radhakrishna leaves you guessing and pauses for a a few seconds.

The conversation is taking place at the Prasad Lab where the debutant director, called Krish by his friends, is overlooking the postproduction work for First Frame Entertainment’s Gamyam produced by his father Saibaba Jagarlamudi.

As Seetha Rama Sastry’s lyrics Gamaname leni gamyam… gives a clue that the film has some road adventure too, Radhakrishna continues, “For most part, it is a road film. As Abhiram sets in search of Janaki, on the way he meets a bike thief Gaali Seenu (‘Allari’ Naresh). Myopic to the world outside, through him he sees an entirely new world and learns what life is all about. A guy who shuns meeting ordinary people interacts with lots of characters, cynical as well as comical and startled by the complexity of nature, people and life as he travels. It is like King Siddhardh’s redemption. I took a huge canvas called Andhra Pradesh to shoot,” reveals Radhakrishna before he moves towards his namesake, the sound engineer. “His name is E. Radhakrishna,” smiles Krish. As we wait to see a clipping on the big screen in the lab theatre, Sarwanand returns a call that we made earlier. He is vacationing in the US.

“I am presently in New York part vacation and part learning process,” he smiles. He has pinned his hopes on the film. “It is an unsual movie. I can say a makeover film for me. I haven’t taken up the role of a full-length hero till now. And Gamyam gave me the chance. I prefer roles that at least have minimum sensible levels. This one has that in abundance. I hope the film does a lot of good to our careers – me, Naresh, Kamalinee and Radhakrishna,” he said.

The DTS mixing work resumes and Radhakrishna returns. “We chose the actors according to the characters and hope they will be appreciated. It is about male bonding too as one gets to know the facts of life after meeting the other guy. The three major characters have a destination to reach and how they reached is the story. E.S. Murthy has composed some really good music. Anil has done the background score. And I am the ninth debut director for whom Hari Anumolu has handled the cinematography. And all my predecessors have tasted success. I wish the luck will rub on me too,” he smiles. “Hari’s camera captures the outdoor locations splendidly and we have mostly shot outdoors,” he concludes.

The film is slated for an early February release.
