Ruhaniyat-the Sufi and Mystic Music festival of Banyan Tree Events, which started seven years ago, is back again this year.
This year the festival will be held in seven cities once again making it the biggest “All India Sufi and Mystic Music festival ever to be held in the country,” say the organisers. The fest will be held in Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad and Pune, besides Mumbai and Bangalore.
In Bangalore, Ruhaniyat will be held on January 20 at 6.30 p.m. at the Bowring Institute. St. Mark’s Road. Ruhaniyat is the brainchild of Mahesh Babu, Director of Banyan Tree Events. The aim of this organisation is to “preserve and nurture the rich heritage of traditional and rare Indian performing arts through music and dance festivals of international standards for over a decade”.
This year Ruhaniyat in the city is sponsored by TATA Elxsi Limited. The event will feature internationally acclaimed artists like Sufi Kalam and Mystic Songs by Kachra Khan, Darra Khan and group (Deserts of Rajasthan), Baul songs by Parvathy Baul (from West Bengal), Sufiana Kalams by Vitthal Rao (Hyderabad), Jagar by Rakesh Bhatt and group (Himalayas), Sukhnani Ojhapalli from Drun Bhuyan and group (Assam), Mystics drums by Siddhi Goma (Africa) and Sufi Qawwali by Shameem and Nayeem Ajmeri and group (Ajmer).
