Enthralling vocal recital
Jayanthi Vaidyanathan gave a vocal recital at Thygaraya Gana Sabha, last week under the aegis of Sangeetha Ksheera Sagaram, at Sabha’s venue. She was accompanied by Komanduru Ananantha Souri Rajanon violin and P. Vidyasagar on mridangam. He is the disciple of Kamalakara Rao of Rajahmundry. Jayanthi had the vocal support of Venkatesh, her cousin. Jayanthi revealed not only rich voice but rich manodharma too. The boy too sounded a bundle of talent. She began with Mandari raga varnam and went on to render a Purandradaasar’s kirtana Govinda Govinda in raga Janasammodini. Then there was a rare composition written by Vattipallii Krishnamurthy in Mayamalava Gowla that was set to music by Ankayya, whose title of Sangeetha Kwsheerasagara this sabha was named after. The raga too was presented in sketch. The kirtana she rendered in this was Nee Manamune. Then she went for O Jagadamba of Shyama Sastry in Ananada BVhairavi. Then she went for Annamacharya Kirtana Entamatramuna set in ragamalika. The major attraction of the concert was Poorvikalyani essay for which Shyama Sastry’s Meenakshime Mudam Dehi was her choice number. The raga was essayed pleasantly and the neraval and swarakalpana reflected her scholarship and imagination. Jayanthi proved quite an accomplished artiste and is strong in shruti, laya and expression. However the mridangam playerseemed to be in a rush and she had to adjust to it at times.
