Prodigious talent to the fore

Hasanthi, a standard VII student, gave a thrilling performance at Ravindra Bharati, last week. Three years ago as a seven year old, she revealed her talents in Bharatanatyam prakriya, presenting half a dozen `Karanas' including the difficult `Urdhva Tandava' . She even earned the title of `Satakarana Tarangini'. TShe opened the programme with a pooja dance and interpretation of Ganesha Pancharatna slokas and moved to a theme called Raja Rajeswari Ashtakam, a compendium of slokas that describe Devi's different forms which Hasanthi displayed striking impressive postures of the Goddess both as benevolent figure and ferocious. The popular Athana Jatiswaram in Kuchipudi style was a cake walk for this little girl and the way she observed time sense in giving perfect finish to the Jatis was a beauty to watch. Oorvasi Satish conducted the show well with nattuvangam to the vocal support of D.S.V.Sastry.
