The Techies: Actor Vikram and the ‘Kandasamy’ crew with Rinizing Wangali, Indian Ambassador in Mexico.
The Tamil film ‘Kandasamy’ produced by Kalaipuli S.Thanu for V.Creations with Vikram and Shriya Saran in the lead is to be shot in Mexico. This is the first Tamil film to be shot in that country. The shooting is to take place in May.
There is also a proposal to make a Spanish film produced by Thanu and acted by Vikram and directed by Susi Ganesan. Not only for this venture but for various other films concerning India and Mexico, producer Thanu has been made the Indian Ambassador for future co-productions. The Mexican Government was also happy to be part of ‘Kandasamy’ and was willing to be associated with the project in a big way. Producer Thanu explained how all this happened.
“Our earlier plan was to shoot some of the important scenes for ‘Kandasamy’ in Kenya. So director Susi Ganesan went there to choose the location. After his return the scene changed in Kenya and the situation was not favourable to us. So we started looking for another location. After a mammoth search and getting more inputs we zeroed in on Mexico and correspondence with the country’s film and government personalities started. At the end of January we decided to visit the country and also other possible locations.”
Exotic Mexico
Producer Thanu, director Susi Ganesan, hero Vikram, cameraman Ekambaram and art director Thotta Tharani flew to Mexico and stayed there for 10 days to decide on the location.
Producer Thanu was all praise for the beauty of Mexico. “We met various film authorities of their country and were taken in a helicopter for nearly four days to view some of the exotic locations. We then met the Indian Ambassador Rinzing Wangali who took us to Durango, where we had a chance to meet the Governor C.P.Ismael Alfredor Hernandez Drras. We screened the trailer of ‘Kandasamy’ during dinner. The standing ovation they gave after watching the film is still fresh in my mind.” “They also appreciated the artwork of Thotta Tharani who had made a special logo combining the national birds of both the countries. A Mexican dance was presented and Vikram couldn’t resist joining them. And then he impressed them by speaking a few words in Spanish,” added Thanu.
Vikram said that he was happy to be part of the delegation which went to Mexico. “The people are courteous and beautiful. They also knew about cinema and the technicalities. As it takes only two-and-half hours from the U.S. to reach Mexico they know all about the latest techniques and equipment to be used in a film.”
“When they saw the trailer of the ‘Kandasamy’ they were throwing a number of questions about my role and also my female characterisation in the film. Some of them said that I look like a Spanish guy and I can act in their film. I have also accepted to do a film in Spanish language directed by Susi Ganesan and produced by Kalipuli Thanu,” says the jubilant actor.
“Susi Ganesan was a happy man. His idea of shooting in Mexico has become a reality and he has also bagged a new project.
“As of now my main aim is to make ‘Kandasamy’ a box office hit. I am working towards it. As the Government has joined in the production I think I can weave a magic in making ‘Kandasamy’ a memorable film,” adds Vikram.
