Going to the factory

Actor Sudeep did a quick wrap of Mussanje Maatu before leaving for Mumbai to work on Ramgopal Verma’s Phook

TERMINATOR Sudeep: ‘Ramu’s film is like summer holidays for me. I’ll be back’

It was a huge turnout for a hurriedly arranged press conference. The occasion was Sudeep leaving for a schedule in Mumbai where he’s shooting for the shooting of Ramgopal Verma’s “Phook” and the unit of “Mussanje Maatu” wanted him to address the press.

It’s not easy for a debutante director to get a break but Mahesh has managed to get a good producer and insisted on Sudeep even though he was warned about his tantrums. Mahesh worked on the script for one-and-a-half years. Ramya rushed in late and blamed the traffic. The press sniggered because she’s famous for playing truant. She’s very impressed with Mahesh’s work. “I have a lovely role though I don’t have too many lines. I must say it’s Sudeep’s film,” she said. The bonhomie was not forced. It was Sudeep who insisted the director cast Ramya even though they had problems during “Ranga SSLC”. “I was sure she was best suited for the role. The problems are a thing of the past. We need to grow up,” said Sudeep.

“Ramya may not have much to say in the film but her facial expressions will more than suffice,” he added. Sudeep has lost oodles of weight and looks much thinner than he did in “Gooli”. Everyone was full of praise for the director and music director Sridher, a keyboard player who’s tuned eight songs. “I’m usually sceptical about newcomers but I must say Mahesh has transformed whatever he narrated very competently into celluloid,” said Sudeep. Ramya is full of praise for the director who she feels will go places. When someone questioned Sudeep about the Ramu film he was reluctant to talk. “This meet is to talk about ‘Mussanje Maatu’. I don’t want to divert the attention. I’ve requested Ramu to have a press meet here shortly and he’s agreed. I told him that I belong here and the people who love me are all here. I’m definitely not shifting to Bombay. Ramu’s film is like summer holidays for me. I’ll be back. I feel honoured to work with a genius like him,” said Sudeep. Meanwhile ‘Mussanje Maatu’ has been wrapped up and is ready for release.

Did the show of solidarity from the film fraternity (for the Hogenekal issue) serve any purpose? Was is just staged in retaliation to what was done in Chennai? Insiders say there was an attendance register. The absentees were marked and will be turned away when they approach the chamber with grievances.

There was a scramble for the limited chairs and those who sat on the floor were made to feel unimportant. The late comers were berated and admonished like school children. “Nobody knew what to say but was forced to say something because they wanted to be seen on television.

Only ‘Mukhyamanthri’ Chandru knew some facts and figures and spoke with sense,” says a prominent director.
