A meaningful presentation

Lasyapriya’s dance show was marked by good sahitya and expressive rendition.



Attractive show Dancers displayed perfection in abhinaya

Kuchipudi dancers of Lasyapriya performed to the 36 compositions of Annamacharya and also presented a ballet with vocal support by Venumadhav and Sastry.

Titled as ‘Venkateswara Vaibhavam’, the show was conducted by Uma Rama Rao and Rajyam.

This programme, held at Ravindra Bharati last week under the auspices of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam and the department of culture, marked the 600th Jayanthi of Annamacharya. This was followed by a ballet Pada Kelika –‘Narsimha Vijayam.’

Impressive rendition

The story revolves around the demon king Hiranyakasyapa, who orders his sister Holika to kill Prahlada by jumping into the agni gundam (fire pit) holding Prahlada in her arms.

But Holika,a devotee of Maha Vishnu, protects Prahlada and sacrifices her own life.

Lord Narasimha emerges out of a huge pillar and kills the demon king by tearing his abdomen.

This rare Yakshagana was the attractive part of the whole show, supported by songs also written by Annamayya.

A child dancer Karina Acharya in the role of Prahlada, was the cynosure of all eyes.

It was an impressive rendition by Venumadhav and Sastryand the dancers displayed perfection in abhinaya.

Some of the dance numbers were interspersed with Jati spells in Kuchipudi idiom. All the nine dancers are matured artistes with good stage presence. Kocherlakota Srilekha, Soujanya Kiran, Dr.Swarnabala and her daughter Anahita Bharadwaj, Sindhura Murthy, Charvee Reddi, Soumya, and others were noted for these dance numbers.

Uma Rama Rao, a seasoned guru was the person behind this whole show. Popular compositions of Annamayya figured in the ballet.

Some of the notable presentations were Nana Dikkula Narulella in Desh by Soujanya and Anahita, Vedukondama in Charukesi presented by Anahita and Soujanya, Katteduta Vaikuntham Tirumala Konda in Hindolam presented by Swarnabala, Vinnapalu Vinavale in Bhoopalam presented by Srilekha, Podagantimayya in Mohana by Soumyasri, Cheri Koluvaro in Hamsadhwani by Madhavimala, Indariki Abhayamichu in Harikambhoji by Charmi and Sindhura and Brahma Kadigina Padamu in Mukhari by Soumyasri and Madhavi Mala.

Srilekha, a senior dancer presented more numbers like Kante Sukravaramu in Anandabhairavi, Avadharichagadavayya, Muvvuru Velpulaku Moolamithadu and Uyyala a cradle song towards the end. Uma Rama Rao too provided vocal support. Mridangam play by Rajagopalacharya and Nageswara Rao, Subbalakshmi on violin, Sudhakar on veena and Dattareya on flute contributed to a strong orchestral backdrop.
