Subramania Pillai centenary

Palani Sri Subramania Pillai Trust (24939234) and Narada Gana Sabha Trust are celebrating the birth centenary of mridangam maestro Palani M. Subramania Pillai at the Narada Gana Sabha Main Hall on May 11. N. Murali, president, the Music Academy, and the Managing Director, The Hindu, will light the lamp and preside over the function that begins at 6 p.m. Guruvayur Dorai will present the welcome address.

The release of a special cover by M.S.Ramanujan, Postmaster General, Chennai City Region, and the inauguration of a website on Pillai by Carnatic music exponent, M. Balamurlaikrishna, make up the agenda. Veterans T.K.Murthy, Palghat Raghu and Lalgudi Jayaraman, will grace the occasion.

Vocal concert

The ceremony will be followed by a vocal concert of Madurai T.N.Seshagopalan, accompanied by M. Chandrasekharan, Thrisssur C. Narendran and B.S.Purushothaman.
