The poet lives on…

Speeches and recitals marked the tribute to Mahakavi Sri Sri.

Commemorating the Diamond Jubilee of the commencement (June 6, 1933) of scripting Mahaprasthanam with the lyric Nenusaitham titled Jayabheri and the 25th death anniversary (June 15, 1983) of the Mahakavi Sri Sri (Srirangam Srinivasa Rao), noted literary associations MOSAIC, ESKAY Foundation and Visakha Sahithi together organised a programme of soulful tribute at the Public Library last Saturday.

The brief but enlightening speeches by noted writer L.R. Swamy who chaired the session, guests of honour Y. Manohar (VSP Director, Personnel), retired Telugu professor K. Malayavasini, AU Professor, literary critic and novelist Chandu Subbarao, left an impression of being a revelation of the persona of Sri Sri. It empathetically gets identified with ground realities.

Earlier, a young lad of Standard V, G. Suraj, delightfully recited a dozen lyrics of Sri Sri extemporaneously with laudable clarity.

The novelty of the programme lay in the presentation of the entire kavya of Mahaprasthanam with dramatised intoning as an audio-skit antiphonally (Sravyaroopakam) under the direction of the secretary of the MOSAIC, Ramateerdha. Ramateerdha along with Jagaddhratri and G. Nageswara Rao accompanied with suitable music on keyboard by Ch. Srinivas presented it. The first of its kind, the attempt was well appreciated by senior citizens in particular as Sri Sri was born and brought up in the port city.
