Culture A week of dance, drama and music.
|
The monthly schedule of Visakha Music and Dance Academy featured Harikatha by Nagalakshmi of Tadepalligudem. A disciple of Susarla Subrahmanya Bhagavathar, she started learning the art from the age of five and stated performing at the age of seven in 1973. A graduate with specialisation in Sanskrit and endowed with melodious voice coupled with sense of perfect sruthi, laya, raga and tala intricacies, she made a laudable effort not only narrating the life history of Ramadasu but also making a comparative study of the musical and literary aspects of the compositions of Thyagaraja and his influence. She was accompanied on harmonium by M.K.R. Prasad and his daughter Kalyani on mridangam in turns and G. Ravi on kanjeera.
