Remembering Raj Kapoor

The write-up on Raj Kapoor by Ranjan Das Gupta, ‘Raj of the super tramp’ (Friday Review, dated June 13) was very interesting.

India produced two great showmen, one was S.S. Vasan and the other was Raj Kapoor.

After his ‘Mera Naam Joker’ flopped, Raj Kapoor did not accept defeat. He came out with ‘Bobby’ and minted money. ‘Bobby’ is the most popular teenage love story ever made.

In his article, Ranjan Das Gupta has erred in two places. One was where he mentioned ‘Neel Kamal’s’ heroine. The heroine was Madhubala and not Geeta Bali.

And the other was‘Papi.’ This film was produced and directed by Chandulal Shah and not K.A. Abbas.

Raj Kapoor is no more, but he will live through his creations.

S. Ganeshan,

Chennai.
