Kalpagam Swaminathan, veteran veena artist has been chosen for the Veena Seshanna Memorial National Award. Vocalists Rudrapatnam Brothers will receive the Swara Murthy V.N.Rao Award.
The awards, instituted by the Bangalore-based Swara Murthy V.N.Rao Memorial Trust, will be conferred on July 20 at the Bangalore Gayana Samaja Auditorium, where a two-day music festival (July20-21) has been organised. The Veena Seshanna Award, which carries a purse of Rs. 50,000, is presented to an instrumentalist every year and is sponsored by Dr. Veerendra Heggade of Dharmasthala.

Lalgudi Jayaraman, R.R.Keshava Murthy, M.S.Gopalakrishnan and H.V.Krishnamurthy are some of the earlier recipients.
The Swara Murthy Award, sponsored by Dr. A.H.Rama Rao, carries a cash of Rs. 50,000 and is presented to a senior vocalist every year. Recipients include V. Ramarathnam, T.K.Govinda Rao, R.K.Srikantan and T.V.Sankaranarayanan.
