Sarojadevi remembers Rajkumar…
|
Work was worship Rajkumar and B. Saroja Devi in the film Srinivasa Kalyana
“If only Rajkumar were around, how happy he would have been now… I miss him,” says Saroja Devi. But in her mind, she feels, Rajkumar is still around, somewhere…
“He was such a dear part of our family, and a good friend of mine. Whenever we acted in a film together, my mother would be elated. She would cook dishes that he liked and pack a huge carrier. Obbattu was his favourite sweet and it was sure to be there. On such days, Rajkumar would make sure that he would eat lunch with me,” says Saroja Devi.
There is a beetle leaf creeper in Saroja Devi’s garden which carries with it strong memories of the late thespian. “He loved the leaves from that plant. He would never leave without having velledele and adike…,” she adds, nostalgically.
Rajkumar was very proud of Saroja Devi’s accomplishments. He often said: “See how she has taken on the industry in Madras. She is the perfect artiste.”
Thick friends that they were, they did share many things with each other. “Of course, not a day did he discuss all this in public and neither did I. It’s impossible for anyone to take his place,” she says, fondly.
