Consecration
The mahakumbabhishekam of Sri Kungumanayaki sameda Sri Kailasanatha temple in Thenusvasapuram (Oothukkadu), will take place on July 9, 9-10.30 a.m. Sri Jayendra Saraswati will lead the consecration ceremony.
Referred to as Kovur in Sangam literature, the village, legend says, attained the more popular name Oothukkadu after sage Narada created a pool on barren land and that swelled into a huge tank. Nandini and Patti, the calves of divine cow Kamadenu, recovered from their swoon due to the grace of Lord Krishna, who recreated the Kalinganardana scene at the tank and hence the name Thenusvasapuram, Moochukkadu in Tamil. The presence of Kailasanatha temple gives it the name Thenkailasam.
The temple, which was in a dilapidated condition, has been renovated by the Oothukkadu Venkatakavi Academy in coordination with the HR and CE Board. Contributions may be sent to N. Gopalakrishnan, Trustee, 7, Maddala Narayanan Street, Mylapore. Phone 2464 2664. Cheques may be drawn in favour of Oothukkadu Venkatakavi Academy Trust.
