Laurels and glory P. Bramananda Rao
Dr. P. Bramananda Rao, a doctor by profession, is also a veteran stage actor, playwright and director. He is held in high regard by his contemporaries since he treats poor artistes and elderly stage actors free of charge.
The Vijayawada Cultural Academy fittingly honoured Dr. Bramhananda Rao at a function organised at Gokaraju Laila Gangaraju Kala Vedika, G.V.R.Government College of Music and Dance. The large crowd that attended patiently waited since the event began an hour later than expected. Too many guests adorned the stage but the boredom was amply compensated by the spectacular felicitation part.
On behalf of the cultural academy, well known patron of arts Putta Jaganmohan Rao honoured Bramhananda Rao. Replying to the congratulatory speeches made by theatre personalities and patrons V. Hazarattayya Gupta, Palagani Prabhakar Rao, Putta Jaganmohan Rao, Prabhakar Rao, K. Raghunadha Reddy and Pilla Lakshmi Prasad and others, Bramhananda Rao gave a fitting replay. He profusely thanked the speakers who praised his multifaceted services to people in general and particularly to artistes.
On the occasion, a young mridangam player was presented with a mridangam by prominent businessman and patron of arts Tatavarti Suryanarayana. Incidentally, Dr. Bramhananda Rao was the first actor who won the Nandi Award from the district. He won the award in the Nandi Natakotsavam held in Tirupathi in 2006.
