Missing novelty

GUDIPOODI SRIHARI

A lacklustre script marked the play staged as part of the birth anniversary of thespian Garimella Ramamurthy.

Actor felicitated Ravi Kondala Rao and his wife Radhakumari were honoured.

Rasaranjani organised a function to celebrate the 72nd birth anniversary of late thespian Garimella Ramamurthy.

It would not be an exaggeration to say that he was the backbone of many a theatrical unit, including Rasaranjani. Working in the A.G’s office in Hyderabad, he was shouldering the responsibilities of theatre units, almost till his sudden death a few years back.

Keeping in view his services to Surabhi’s survival, this memorial function was held at a traditional shed, erected in Lalithakala Thoranam complex, Public Gardens.

Stage and cine actor Ravi Kondala Rao was felicitated on this occasion along with his actress-wife Radhakumari. Ravi Kondala Rao was the person who cast Ramamurthy for the first time in the role Agnihotravadhanlu in the play Kanyasulkam, some fifty years back. Playwright C.S.Rao, and writer Paruchuri Venkateswara Rao and actor Murali Mohan also shared their memories.

Curiouse title

The event was marked by staging of a play titled Bandhumitrula Abhinandanalato.. a line that we often see on wedding cards.

Staged by Sri Sai Arts, Kolakaluru, the play was scripted by Chinnikrishna and directed by Goparaju Vijay.

Annapoorna is a TV buff and regularly watches the programmes ignoring the pleas of her husband Krishnaprasad(Goparaju Ramana).

Family drama

The story centres around the marriage of their son Kartik (Y. Srinivas). Annapoorna’s brother, builder Appa Rao (R.Appa Rao) and Krishnaprasad’s brother-in-law, sarpanch Kanna Rao (Govardhan Reddy), vie with each other to make Kartik their son-in-law.

And the play ends with the young man announcing his marriage with a girl he loved. The builder and the sarpanch spoke in a colloquial style to win the bridegroom. There is nothing much to comment on the script and theme with anoddtitle Bandhu Mitrula Abhinandanalato. The actors are an experienced lot, but the lack of a good script left them helpless.
