Veene Seshanna memorial national award and Swaramurthy V.N. Rao memorial national award to be conferred on July 20



SCHOLARS Rudrapatnam Brothers

Swaramurthy V.N. Rao Memorial Trust in collaboration with Bangalore Gayana Samaja is giving Veene Seshanna Memorial national award to Vidushi Kalpagam Swaminathan. Kalpagam Swaminathan has achieved great distinction in playing the veena in Thanjavur style. The award will be presented by Veerappa Moily, Chairman, Administrative Reforms Commission and former chief minister of Karnataka. N. Murali, President, Music Academy, Chennai and Managing Director, The Hindu, will present Swaramurthy V.N. Rao memorial national award to Rudrapatnam brothers, R.N. Tyagarajan and R.N. Tharanathan. The award ceremony will be held on July 20 at 11.30 a.m, Gayana Samaja. Swaramurthy V.N. Rao Memorial Trust in collaboration with Bangalore Gayana Samaja has a two-day music festival “Veeneya Bedagu”, having veena and mridanga recital by Kalpagam Swaminathan and C. Cheluvaraj on July 20. The same evening, Rudrapatnam brothers will sing accompanied by Akkara Subbalakshami on violin, Guruvayur Dorai on mridanga and B.N. Chandramouli on khanjari.

On July 21, at 6 p.m., there will be performances by Malladi brothers – Ram Prasad and Ravi Kumar, accompanied by H.V. Venkataram on violin, Arjun Kumar on mridanga and N. Amrith on khanjari.



Kalpagam Swaminathan

Veena Seshanna award of Rs. 50,000 is given to a veteran instrumentalist every year and is sponsored by Veerendra Heggade of Dharmasthala. Swaramurthy award sponsored by A. H. Rama Rao also of Rs. 50,000 is given to a senior vocalist every year.
