Thyagaraja Day celebrated

Laudable effort A scene from Thyagaraja Tatwa Darshanam.

Thyagaraja Day was celebrated on Monday last. P.V.S. Sesha Sastri (former principal of Government College of Music and Dance, Hyderabad) recited some of the saint-composer’s compositions. Getting off to a vivacious start with Ninnebhajana (Naata), he rendered Nenarrunchara (Simhavahini), Raaramaayintidaaka (Saveri), Bhajarebhajamanasa (Kannada) and Entamuddo (Bindumalini) before he went in for Yennalloorake (Subhapantuvarali) and concluded with Ksheerasagaravihara (Anandabhairavi). Dwaram Satyanarayana on violin and M.L.N. Raju on mridangam provided good support.

Then followed a dance ballet — Thyagaraja Tatwa Darshanam — interwoven with a few compositions of the saint-poet like Girirajasuthaathanaya (Bangala-Aadi), Sogasuga Mridangatalamu (Sriranjani-Roopakam), Ksheerasagarasayana (Devagandhari-Aadi) and the Pancharatna kriti Endaromahanubhavulu (Sri-Aadi). Kuchipudi artiste A.B. Balakondalarao and her disciples Aditya Bullibrahmam, Malyada Anand, Kamalasri, Swathi, Pratyusha and Manisha presented it. Sujatha and Gouri (vocal), Bala (nattuvangam), Ananda Srihari on mridangam, A. Satyavishal on violin, M.V. Satyanarayana on veena and N. Kumarbabu on flute were good. Make-up by Chiranjeevi, lighting by Lokesh and management by A. Kondalarao were also good.

A.R.S.
