The Sadguru Sri Narayana Tirtha Swamigal Trust of Andhra Pradesh, in association with Thirupoonthuruthi Sri Narayana Tirtha Swamigal Trust, Chennai, celebrated the 333rd jayanti of Sri Narayana Tirtha at his birth place, Kaza in Guntur, for three days (July 11-13).
The celebration was inaugurated by Y. Haragopal Reddy, Vice-Chancellor, Nagarjuna University, who promised support for a chair for Krishna Leela Tharangini. He also agreed to involve the students of the departments of music and Sanskrit in the proceedings of the jayanti celebrations. A. Ramji, patron of Thirupoonthuruthy Trust, outlined the milestones in the life of Tirtha. T. Venkatesan, Managing Trustee, touched on the activities of the Trust, which include the conduct of aradhana at Thirupoonthuruthy, the functioning of two schools in Thanjavur to teach Tharangam and the competitions held to identify fresh talent.
S. Ramachandra Rao, Chairman of Sadguru Narayana Tirtha Trust of Kaza and B.V.Ramana Kumar, Chief Vigilance and Security Officer, TTD, Tirupati, and an active member of the Executive Committee, appreciated the involvement of the representatives from Tamil Nadu in hosting the event. The Malladi Brothers presented a concert of Tharangams in the forenoon session. Kovai Jayarama Bhagavathar and party presented namasankirtanam in the evening. The residents of the neighbourhood attended the event in large number.
