Cultural fest
The city based Sri Rama Gana Sabha Trust, Tiruchi, celebrated its annual music and dance festival at Bala Kala Vidhanam premises for two days this past week.
Vocal recital by Mambalam Sisters was showcased on the inaugural day. The concert was a beautiful combination of classical kritis, devotional songs and bhajans.
The sisters were ably accompanied by R. Hemalatha on the violin, Nellai Balaji on the mridangam and K. S. Rangachari on the ganjira.
Former Lions district governor L. N. Letchumanan and Kannathal Letchumanan were the chief guests on the inaugural day. Promising young mridangam artist, Tiruchi G. Arvindh was honoured, for securing the third rank ( District level) in the Plus Two examinations.
The second and final day saw a scintillating dance performance by Roja Kannan, who took up songs from Narayana Tirtha’s Krishna Leela Tarangini.
The thematic production depicted interesting stories from the colourful life of Lord Krishna. Her nritta and abhinaya stole the hearts of the audience.
Kavitha Subramanian, chairman, Karpagam Educational Trust, Pudukottai, was the chief guest.
