Young at 1005!

Prabhath Kalavidaru is back with two ballets; of course Cindrella is one of them



HARI SARVOTHAMA The all-time favourite story of Prahlada

The famed Prabhat Kalavidaru of Bangalore will stage two popular ballets in the city this week end. Hari Sarvothama based on the mythological story of Prahlada the son of Hiranyakashipu, will have its first performance.

“Cindrella”, Prabhath Kalavidaru’s evergreen production, will be staged for the 1005th time.

The ballet ‘Hari Sarvothama’ will be choreographed by Hema Panchamukhi. She said the ballet was a blend of various classical dances. The role of Prahlada will be enacted by Sampada, a 10-year old girl studying in her fifth standard.

Hiranyakashapu will be enacted by Harish Prabhat, while the role of Prahlada’s mother Kayadu will be played by Pavithra. Balasubramanyam will play Lord Narasimha.

Mega cast

With over 60 artists in the ballet, Deepashree will playthe role of Cinderella. M.S. Shanthala of Paduvarahalli Pandavaru fame, and one of the senior-most artistes of Prabhat Kalavidaru recalled her 30-years of association with the ballets of the group. “I have participated in every Cinderella production but my passion hasn’t waned. This is my 1005th ballet and I have performed in over 10,000 theatre plays all over the country and abroad. I have played Cinderella too, though my performance as fairy numbers to 650. ”.

“Hari Sarvothama” will be performed on July 25, Friday, 6.30 p.m. and Cinderella on July 26, 3.30 p.m. at Ravindra Kalakshetra, Bangalore.

Choreography is by Hema Panchamukhi, music by Praveen D. Rao and lyrics by Goturi.
