A brush with commerce

Art Panache presented its first exhibition in New Delhi

Ameeshi Tapuriah and Puja Gupta of Gallery Art Panache organised an exhibition of contemporary art by 26 artists from across the country, at the India Habitat Centre this past week. The exhibition titled “Odyssey” gave a platform to both known and lesser known artists. The works of art were showcased under the theme “A reflection of the artist’s journey of life”.

According to Ameeshi, “Odyssey is our journey to promote contemporary Indian art that is aesthetically appealing as well as affordable.” In the true tradition of buying and selling, the two curators provided viewers a wide choice of artworks, from figurative to abstract, landscapes to mixed media works.

Elaborating on the theme Puja cited the example of Meenakshi J. Bannerjee, a young painter from Patna specialising in Madhubani and fashion and how these experiences in her life reflect in her painting titled “Madhya Veeram” where she juxtaposes all these ideas to come up with a splendid work of art.

Happy connotations

Another painter who was well received was Deepa Vedpathak. “Her paintings always have happy connotations which clicks with the buyers,” Ameeshi pointed out. Lalit Maity with his split canvas and Nagesh Goud with his paper-acrylic works also drew kudos.

Other artists included seasoned masters Niren Sengupta and Dhiraj Choudhary among others.

This was the first time the Gurgaon-based Art Panache put up an exhibition in Delhi. Ameeshi said, “We are very pleased with the response. We are hoping Delhi will soon have serious buyers.” The next show is planned for October.
