The State Department of Culture should be commended for its effort in popularising the ‘Sata Roopa’ fest.

Folk delight Dappu play enamoured all.
The successful holding of the ‘Sata Roopa’ festival by the State Department of Culture is definitely a feather in its cap. Not just because it lasted for 100 days at the Ghantasala Pranganam in Ravindra Bharati complex, but for a great
variety of shows that have been showcased at the fest.
The gamut of the culture field was expanded to all kinds of folk and classical art forms and also literary programmes.Dr. Rallabandi Kavita Prasad, director, Department of Culture informed that their Sata Roopa project became so popular that Karnataka, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu governments had shown lot of interest and checking out the possibilities of having similar fest in the states. The Department identified artistes from each district and invited nearly 3,112 performers from all over the State to take part in this festival. And every troupe was paid, besides giving them boarding and lodging facilities. Some of the artistes were so thrilled that they felt giving programmes at the capital city was in itself an honour for them and to the art. The programmes included some never-seen-before folk art forms. On the concluding day there was Perini Siva Tandavam that was reconstructed and propagated by Nataraja Ramakrishna. This was an experience to watch as it had basic foot work adapted from the Veera Saiva cult.
A Kuchipudi dance by Devulapalli Uma and her team was another highlight on the concluding day. There was Andhra Natyam too. Some folk art forms like a ‘Dappu’ (drum) play by Ratnam and party were also there.
