Tribute to Mansur

The Fifth Mallikarjun Mansur Music Festival begins tomorrow



FEAST Sanjeev Abhyankar and Shruti Sadolikar are among the performers

Dhwani – 2008, the fifth Bangalore Kidney Foundation Mallikarjun Mansur Music Festival is on September 20 and 21 at the JSS Shivaratreeshwara Auditorium.

This year the Mallikarjun Mansur Award goes to the 95-year-old Hindustani music doyen, Pt. D.S. Garud. The felicitation will take place on September 20.


Prior to the felicitation is a sitar recital by N.V. Gopinath. He will be accompanied by Gurucharan Garud on tabla.

This will be followed by Shruti Sadolikar’s vocal recital. She will be accompanied by Vishwanath Nakod on tabla and Vyasamurti Katti on harmonium.

On September 21, a vocal recital by Samaresh Choudhury begins at 9.4 5p.m. He will be accompanied by Vishwanath Nakod on tabla and Vyasamurti Katti on harmonium.

This is to be followed by yet another vocal recital by Sanjeev Abhayankar, accompanied by Ravindra Yavagal and Vyasamurti Katti.

Jayatheerth Mevundi sings at 6 p.m. He will be accompanied by Gurucharan Garud on tabla and Ravindra Katoti on harmonium.

The finale is a vocal recital by Ajay Pohankar, to be accompanied by Ravindra Yavagal and Vyasamurti Katti.

Tickets are available for Dhwani at K.C. Das, Landmark, Calypso-Jayanagar and Channel 9 Jayanagar.
