Raja, Radha and Kousalya Reddy showcase Andhra’s cultural greatness

Abhinaya-oriented drama The childhood deeds of Krishna were imaginatively presented.
A three-day dance and music festival was organised by Natya Tarangini of the renowned dancer family, Raja Reddy, Radha and Kousalya , at Ravindra Bharathi. This was a right mix of quality and creativity both in dance and music. d.
Raja Reddy and his wife Radha were joined by daughters Yamini and Bhavana and other disciples who opened the evening show with Andhri Prasasthi. The number described the historical, religious and cultural greatness of Andhra Pradesh, bringing into picture the contribution of Vaggeyakaras and heritage like temples of the land. This was an abhinaya-oriented drama. . ’Muddu Krishna, displaying the childhood deeds of Krishna, was the other number that was imaginatively presented. Sangeetha Kala and Krishnamohan lent vocal support. Kousalya Reddi conducted the show with crisp nattuvangam.
Ustad Amjad Ali Khan’s sarod recital marked the inaugural. . Amjad Ali Khan took up rare ragas to entertain the audience. His presentation of the first melody, Kafi Kanada, in vilambit ek tal and drut teen tal, with intermittent, medium-paced sargam, were a treat. Satyajit supported him well on the tabla.
On the second day, Geeta Chandran of Delhi presented Bharatanatyam, opening with a Kautvam on Lord Siva in raga Maalika, presenting various facets of the Lord. S. Sankar conducted the show with apt nattuvangam to Sudha Raghuraman’s vocal support. Lalgudi S. Ganesh on the mridangam, R. Dinakar on the violin and Uma Venkatesh on the flute lent good orchestral support. The evening concluded with Parveen Sultana’s Hindustani vocal concert. Earlier, Iswarya, a student of Natya Tarangini, presented a Kuchipudi recital.
Kathak maestro Jayant Kastuar, a veteran, imbibed the techniques of his guru, Pandit Durga Lal, a well-known name.
He dedicated his performance to his late guru. Amjad Ali lent vocal support, also playing the harmonium.
A notable feature of the festival was the performance given by Bhavana in Kuchipudi style. Jayadeva Ashtapadi, presenting Krishna as Purusha and Radha as Prakruti, was laudable.
She also presented an invocation to Ganesha. Kousalya conducted the show to Sangeetha Kala’s vocal support. V. Bhaskar Rao on the mridangam, Anilkumar on the violin and Suryanarayana on the flute added to the musical appeal.
