Epic retold Bhagavad Gita.
To present Bhagavad Gita in Kuchipudi dance form is quite a formidable effort. Venkatarama Sarma amply succeeded in this. The Vijayawada Cultural Academy presented the dance drama Bhagavad Gita choreographed and directed by Sarma at Gokaraju Laila Gangaraju Kala Vedika in the premises of Government College of Music and Dance, Vijayawada, came as a visual treat.
Some of the episodes performed by the troupe were Pandava Vanavasam, Pandava Agnata Vasam, Krishna Rayabaram, Viswaroopa Sandarsanam, Kourava Pandava Yudham and Dharmaraja Pattabhishekam.
Every scene was neatly and efficiently enacted by dancers Sowmya (Krishna), B. Srinivasa Sarma (Arjuna), B. Hanumanta Rao (Duryodhana), Suresh Babu (Karna), D. Vithal (Bhema), John (Sakuni) and Ch. Anjaneyulu (Dhrutarashtra).
Sowmya was very convincing in the role of Lord Krishna. Striking costumes, simple but elegant sets added much to the dance drama.
