Consecration at Nannilam

Consecration of Sri Iravadeswarar temple, Tirukottaram, Tiruvarur, Nannilam, will take place on March 22, 9.30-11 a.m. Preliminary rituals began on March 17.

This ancient (1,400 years old) temple is situated on the bank of the Cauvery.

Legend has it that Iravadam, Indra’s elephant, worshipped the deity here.

Vandamar Poonkuzhali is the Ambal’s name.

Tirugnanasambandar has sung in praise of the deity of this temple. Consecration last took place in 1987.
