Deft strokes and riot of colours

An exhibition showcases works of promising artists.

Prize’worthy’ Works of Namdev Kagadagar

Lalit Kala Parishad, established in 1969 and recognised by Central Lalit Kala Academy, organised its 37th all-India Art exhibition at the Lions Club Community Hall last weekend. Eighty three works in different media — water colours, oils, acrylics, pastels, pencil and pen drawings besides graphics — selected by an expert committee were put on show for public view.

Having received munificent support from P.S. Telugu University, Kurella Someswararao Cultural Trust and Lions Club of Visakhapatnam, the Parishad liberally increased the number of prizes. As more than one work of about 48 entrants were mounted, they revealed the zeal for innovation of the artistes and their conviction not to get repetitive.

The gliding and soft touches of the brush with water, oil and acrylic colours manifesting contours of waves of continuity delighted all visitors. Similarly, the colour combinations rendering the cloth adorned to the figure transparent and exposing the fresh glossy lustre of the body was yet another attraction.

M. Subramanyeswara Rao.

Some pictures done with pencil, pen and ink and pastels besides graphics besides collages immediately caught the eye of the visitors. Some aquatints stood out as monochromatic presentation of real situations in day-to-day life.

Best artiste of the year award was bagged by Kappari Kishan of Hyderabad for his work titled Chitrakaarini in acrylic. M. Subrahmanyeswara Rao was awarded first prize for his Aatabommalu in water colours, Namdev Kagadaga, P. Lakshmikanth, N. Prasad and P.R. Kumar shared the second and third prizes for their works.

Drawing by M. Rajasri, work in water colours by P. Rajarao and eight others were declared eligible for honourable mention, special and merit certificates.
