Fitting tribute

EVENT The Yagnaraman July fest is on from June 27 to July 5.

Sri Krishna Gana Sabha is celebrating ‘Yagnaraman July Fest’ between June 27 and July 5. The event coincides with his birth anniversary on July 1.

The celebration begins with Mangala Isai by Mylai R. Mahendran, followed by the inaugural function. V. Shankar, president, Shri Shanmukhananda Fine Arts & Sangeetha Sabha, Mumbai, will inaugurate and present the Yagnaraman Lifetime Achievement Award to Vyjayanthimala Bali.

The award carries a gold medallion, a tamra patra and a purse of Rs. 50,000.

The Yagnaraman Award of Excellence will be presented to vocalist Abhishek Raghuram and Kuchipudi dancer Deepika Reddy. This award carries a gold medallion, a tamra patra and a purse of Rs.15,000.

The programme schedule is as follows: ‘Thiruppavai’, a Bharatanatyam dance drama by Anita Guha’s Bharathanjali on the inaugural day; a Carnatic jugalbandhi by N. Vijay Siva and T.M. Krishna on June 28; instrumental jugalbandhi by Lalgudi Vijayalakshmi (Carnatic violin) and Pravin Godkhinde (Hindustani flute) on June 29 and a melharmonic musical event by Ravikiran (chitraveena) and Anil Srinivasan (piano) on June 30.

The dance festival on choreographic works on Sankhya (numbers) begins with ‘Dasavatharam’ (Mohiniyattom) by Bharati Shivaji, followed by ‘Navarasa’ (Bharatanatyam) by Ananda Shankar Jayant on July 1; ‘Ashta Nayika’ (Odissi) by Aruna Mohanty, followed by ‘Sapta Aavarta’ (Kathak) by Prerana Shrimali on July 2; ‘Shadrutu’ (Vilasini Natyam) by Swapnasundari, followed by ‘Panchabutham’ (contemporary dance) by Madhu Natraj on July 3; ‘Chaturveda’ (Kathak) by Rajashree Shirke, followed by ‘Divya Thriyam’ (Bharatanatyam) by Srikanth and Ashwathy on July 4; ‘Dvaita’ (Kuchipudi) by Raja and Radha Reddy, followed by ‘Advaita’ (Bharatanrityam) by Padma Subrahmanyam and concludes with ‘Poornam’ (Odissi) by Sonal Mansingh on July 5.
