NUTSHELL

Deepika Reddy receiving the award along with Dr. Vyjayanthimala Bali

Chennai honour for Deepika Reddy

Yet another award for the city-based Kuchipudi dancer Deepika Reddy. That it is from the prestigious Sri Krishna Gana Sabha of Chennai makes it more special for Deepika, who feels “this is a recognition for my Guru and the Kuchipudi form of dan ce.”

Sri Krishna Gana Sabha is one of the oldest and most renowned Sabhas of Chennai. As a founder member and General Secretary of the Sabha for over five decades, Yagnaraman has always been synonymous with the Sabha. He dedicated his life to promote the classical arts of India. As a fitting tribute to his contribution to the cultural world, Sri Krishna Gana Sabha instituted annual awards in his name. An outstanding senior artiste is honoured with ‘The Yagnaraman Life Time Achievement Award’ and artistes of the younger generation who have excelled in music and dance are honoured with ‘Yagnaraman Award of Excellence’. This year’s recipient of the Lifetime Award is Bharatanatyam exponent Dr. Vyjayanthimala Bali and the recipient of the Award of Excellence for dance was Kuchipudi exponent Deepika Reddy.
