Celebrate with a play

Kalabhishek commemorates its tenth anniversary.

A celebration with song, dances and drama.

Kalabhishek, a social and cultural organisation founded by Saroj Gharipurkar in Hyderabad; completed ten years of its existence last Sunday. The main objective of the organisation is to spread the Marathi culture amongst the children and youth of Mar athi speaking families.

On this tenth anniversary the children and the family members of the group presented a cultural programme which included songs, dance and drama in Marathi language. A souvenir highlighting their achievements for the last ten years was released on the occasion. hirish Jain, IPS, Assistant Director, S.V. Patel Police academy, Indramalu Jain, IAS, visiting Fellow of Indian National Rural Development Institution, Hyderabad and Dr. Sunidhitai, a well known Gynaecologist were guests of honour. Rupesh Kalantri, the President of the organisation welcomed the guests and spoke about the achievements and future plans of the organisation.

Popular folk songs were choreographed by young theatre artiste Krishna which was the highlight of the show. The programme also included a one act play in Marathi titled Lakshya written by Amit Deshmuk. The play revolves around two youngsters who decide to commit suicide by jumping off a cliff. The two believed that they have strong reasons to take this drastic step, one having lost his beloved in a tragic road accident because of his stunt on a motorbike and the other having failed in his degree exam and not making it big in the film industry where he tries his luck. Discussing their reasons , the two youth find each other’s reason too silly and trifle to commit suicide and feel there is more in life to achieve than death and causing pain to their parents who are dependent on them. Hence they abandon their plan to commit suicide.

Sunil Chandurkar and Nishant Gharipurkar were apt in their roles and were good in displaying the emotions needed for this play. The play was directed by Prof. Bhaskar Shewalker.
