His master’s style

A concert with impressive laya technique.

Raghavan
On the second day of the two-day fest at Kalasagaram, Raghavan, son and disciple of R. Kannan performed. The note worthy aspects of the concert was the ragam.
But on the contrary his krithi rendition was poor as the sahitya went unheard most of the time.
His laya technique was impressive. Every disciple needs to develop his guru’s knowledge rather than the style of singing, and this Raghavan did with perfection.
He began his recital with kananda ata tala varnam which sounded shaky with little swaram. Vatapi in Hamsadwani was the next to come, followed by Shobillu Saptaswara of Thyagar
Palaya Sri Pankaja in Nayaki was a rare display.
Sankerabharanam was the main attraction of the day.
The raga delineation had all the ingredients of the ragam and his tara stai sancharas were more impressive than the lower octaves.
Thyagaraja’s Enduku Peddalavale was neatly rendered and the neraval was impressive.
